I think one of the secrets to my success is that I’ve always taken a down to earth approach to my video. Many content creators will ignore, dismiss, or be downright hostile in their comments, but I’ve gone the opposite result. In turn, it has become a wealth of information sharing. Not only do I have an opportunity to share my knowledge, but often I learn something from others. The result is that the comments generate questions, a lot of questions.

Now, I don’t guarantee that I have the answers for everything. I’m not an engineer, nor have I recently stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, but I do have a genuine interest in learning and sharing. So often times, when a question shows up, I’ll take the time to do the research and find the answer. Long story short, keep asking those questions, and I’ll keep answering them.

Here’s a bonus tip for readers: Up here in the northwoods the ground is frozen, and we’ve recently received a couple of significant snowfalls, which means snow will stick around for a while. But if you are a POTA PERformer antenna user, you may find it difficult to support your elevated ground radials. Normally I like to use a plastic fence post, but nothing is going into the ground right now. The solution for me is to use some inexpensive driveway markers. These 48 inch fiberglass poles are used to mark edges and curbs of your drive so that the snow plow doesn’t hit them. I took three of them and bundled them with a rubber Bongo Tie. Now they stand up like a little tripod and you can clip your elevated radial to them. One caution, though, is that these sticks are lightweight and a brisk wind can knock them over. If that’s the case, you can further stabilize them with a little weight. But for now, for me, they will do the trick until the ground thaws out.
One final note, this weekend we are hitting the road for our mid-winter cabin fever getaway. This year we are exploring downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It’s been quite some time since we’ve been in the heart of MKE and I’m looking forward to the trip. We’ll start things off with a visit to Ham Radio Outlet on the north side, enjoying the food and fun downtown, and finishing up on Sunday with an Parks on the Air activation of Lakeshore State Park (POTA US-1461). Yes, there is a state park right downtown on the shore of Lake Michigan. Isn’t this an amazing city! You’re not going to want to miss next week’s video.
I hope to catch you on the air.
Michael
