Its difficult to find a good base antenna for the 222MHz band. Many of the manufacturers have given up on this banc, which is a shame. This baby will get you on the air with great signal reports. KB9vBR 6 meter J-Pole
This is my favorite antenna. A monster of an antenna measuring 13.5 feet; the six meter J-Pole will exceed your expectations. Click to see a full size picture. It outperforms most commercial antennas with its solid 3 db of gain. Excellent performance; hit repeaters 40 miles away with only 5 watts. The 6 meter J features a two piece design for shipping and easy storage. It is constructed of a combination of 3/4 and 1/2 inch copper tubing for rigidity and light weight. The antenna also has a stabilizer to keep the matching stub from swaying in the wind. The antenna is vertically polarzied for FM work and is pretuned to the 52.525 Mhz calling frequency.

KB9VBR Airband J-Pole antenna
The airband J-Pole antenna is tuned for the 118 – 128 MHz aircraft band. Aviation fans prefer this antenna as it works well picking up both land based and airborne transmitters. Many Live-ATC sites are using this antenna to stream aviation transmissions to the Internet. This antenna will give you about 2.5 db of gain more than what you would get with a discone antenna. The antenna has a two piece design with a screw connector in the middle for easy transport and storage. Overall length of the antenna is about 80 inches with the 11 inch mounting section on the bottom. I normally tune this antenna to about 125MHz, which gives it enough bandwidth to cover the entire aircraft band. But if you wish to have the antenna centered on a specific frequency, please let me know when you order it and I’ll build one to suit.
The (airband) J-pole works fantastically great. I’m receiving crystal clear transmissions that I couldn’t before. I’m 10 miles from the airport on a hill, but the airport is on a hill as well with the Seattle skyscrapers between us. Reception is stellar. - Garrett
