Last night our amateur radio club met out at the location where we will be holding our Field Day event to do some planning and logistics. Gary, WD9CPY graciously offered to bring his telescope so we would also have a chance to catch the transit of Venus as the planet scooted across the face of the Sun.

Venus transit astronomy amateur radio antennaThe weather was a little dicey, partly cloudy with a chance of showers, but there was enough breaks in the clouds for us to see some really neat images from the event. Not only could we see Venus, but a couple of sunspots on the surface of the Sun.

 

Conditions where a little hazy thanks to the clouds and rain, but it was still a treat that won’t be repeated for another 105 years. Any one else see the transit? Leave your impressions in the comments below.
